As a birthday treat Georgina wanted a day to have a go at turning accompanied by her 'bestest friend' Jessica. Georgina had apparently watched her neighbour woodturning in the past and she was so keen to have a go herself. Both girls aged 14yrs were accompanied by John in the morning and Tiggy in the afternoon. I would just like to say that both young ladies were a delight to teach and very amusing, as well as being fiercely competitive!! There was even enough time to do a li
Ann Marie and her Husband Johnathan from Pagham attended a day course with Andy. Johnathan had woodturned at School but Ann Marie was a complete beginner. Both enjoyed the day and went home with smiles on their faces!
Ian, a local lad from Lymington wanted to get to know a bit about woodturning before he purchased a lathe and tools. As a complete beginner I suggested that he attend a day course (or two) before he went about spending money on lathes and tools! There are a lot of tools on the market that are inferior and not that suitable for purpose - I would be able to advise him on what to buy and what he would need to start off with. I normally say that at this stage you would need a mi
Deby from Pewsey booked a day's one to one session with Andy as she was having trouble with catches using her bowl gouge. Andy normally asks everyone who already owns a lathe attending his courses if they could bring their tools with them, especially if they are having some sort of problems using them. The day started with correctly profiling the tools and sharpening them then asking Deby to use them for the whole lesson - that way she can build confidence by using her own
"Myself and my 11 year old Son had an excellent day in Andy’s workshop, both being able to complete a bowl by the end of the day. Andy is very helpful, knowledgeable and patient, allowing us to feel we had created our own work (with help from him with the tricky parts when needed!) We were both made to feel very welcome by Andy & Martine and very much recommend the course."
Having been unfortunately delayed in booking his lesson due to Covid 19 he was well looking forward to the day! Having traveled down to stay with his mother for a few days at Winchester he eventually booked one of the days with me. Here is how John got on.......
Praise indeed! Local Lymington lad Alan came for a two day course before he started to use his own lathe. We had a go at spindle turning, tool sharpening and turned a bowl, we also had a go at making a scoop which whetted his appetite to make a few more. Alan had various careers in the hospitality business in the past (now semi retired) and now holds classes at his successful Lymington B & B kitchen teaching Artisan Bread Making. http://www.steppingstonesnewforest.co.uk Her
