As well as personally turning individual items I also provide instruction to beginners, improvers and those who wish to finely tune their turning skills on British lathes.
Due to a change in career circumstances the opportunity arose to finally do something I am passionate about. Woodturning Tuition in the form of individual lessons, and day courses are available.
ANDY BROWNE WOOD sells and designs individual creations ideally suited to the selected wood. He specialises in different woods and finishes using Pyrography and paints to enhance what would possibly be a bit of 'boring' wood! Special woods need no extras, they shine in their own right without any treatment, just subtle finishes to enhance their own individual beauty. Here I am in my well equipped workshop with a VB36 lathe, one of two that I use for lessons/tuition, my other two lathes are Union Graduates which I have updated myself with variable speed.

All my Lathes are British made! My first Lathe was a long bed VB36 Hegner Lathe which I have now had for over 10 years from new. I recently purchased a display model short bed VB36 to use for lessons. My other two lathes are Union Graduates - one short and one long bed which although old, both have been refurbished with new motors and Variable Speed Controls. All my lathes are suitable for beginners and have been fitted with safety foot switches and 'bang off' buttons just in case you need to stop the lathe in an emergency. Short bed lathes are ideal for hollow forms and bowl turning whereas the long base ones are good for bowl and spindle turning.

All vouchers purchased are non refundable, as are deposits made for booking a day directly with us. The first cancellation will be re-booked for a later date if cancelled within two weeks prior to the booked date. We reserve the right to cancel at short notice due to exceptional circumstances only and re-book the cancelled course on a convenient date to the customer.

Padauk Burr
My "Get around to it" project
This fantastic burr Padauk Burr has been in the wood shed for a good number of years waiting patiently for the time when I had the time and inclination to do it justice. This piece has quite an emotional attachment for me personally as it used to belong to a very good friend of mine, Steve Gibson who started me off turning wood in his workshop a good few years ago. I have had it for at least 10 years and Steve had it for a considerable time before that so in theory it has been drying out for the last 25 years! Unfortunately Steve is no longer with us having passed away 12th August 2013 - far too young.

WORKSHOP & WOODSTORE
RURAL LOCATION
Situated in a wonderfully quiet rural location you can relax and turn to your delight watching the woodpeckers and bullfinches on the feeder outside the workshop window! Red Kites have been spotted the last couple of years with frequent calling of Buzzards overhead throughout the day. In the summer months lunch is held outside on the decking beside the pond, in the winter it is in our lounge overlooking the pond.
